Way Forward Run-and-Gun Spidersaurs Coming to Consoles and PC

Apple Arcade Games Keep Getting Ports

From the team that developed Contra 4 on the Nintendo DS comes a new port of run-and-gun title Spidersaurs. A definitive edition of this 2019 Apple Arcade game drops later this Spring for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC with additional features and tweaks. Even more exciting is that players who already enjoy Spidersaurs on Apple Arcade will be getting the new content too.

In Spidersaurs, one or two players take on titular beasts that are a chaotic melding of spiders and dinosaurs that were surprisingly created as a potential food source for humanity. With a tone similar to Saturday morning cartoons of the 90s, players blast their way through classic run-and-gun stages and face huge bosses in an effort to stop the company behind these creations, INGESTCorp.

Adding to the game, this release adds lots of features: a new stage, a true final boss, a new ending, two new difficulty settings, an arcade mode, and a speedrun mode. Additionally, the game has been balanced with mid-level checkpoints, as well as an altered boss order. The game has also received several visual enhancements.

I played Spidersaurs a little bit back when Apple Arcade first came out. I mostly ended up sticking with Exit the Gungeon and not much else, but with Spidersaurs, I remember thinking “I hope this comes to consoles.” Way Forward has a long history of quality releases so I’m definitely looking forward to the light-hearted action of this game. There have been some stellar game ideas on Apple Arcade but unfortunately, most of them would feel better with a controller, although some games may have controller support. Hopefully this trend of porting those creative games continues.
