Riot Games, the developer and publisher of incredibly popular esports titles League of Legends and VALORANT, is now bringing its wealth of content to Game Pass. In a joint press announcement between Riot Games and Xbox, Marc Merrill, the co-founder and President of Games at Riot unveiled the company’s plan to bring content from five major Riot Games titles to Game Pass subscribers. Not only will this partnership provide content for PC titles, but it will also unlock content for a few of Riot’s mobile-only and mobile-accessible games as well. This announcement came during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12th, one of Xbox’s biggest showcases of the year for new game announcements and current IP updates.

While an exact launch date was not specified, the broad overview of what will be offered was detailed. League of Legends will have all 160+ of its current champions unlocked for players along with day-one access to each new champion that Riot launches. VALORANT will follow suit with its 18 playable agents and day-one access to each new agent. Alongside these two heavy hitters, Riot will be adding content from three of its mobile games: League of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra and Teamfight Tactics. It should be noted that all games will be playable on their original platforms, i.e. League of Legends and VALORANT will be playable via PC Game Pass.

In 2009, Riot Games released League of Legends, the wildly popular MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) on PC platforms. Since then, League of Legends has garnered millions of players and created a massive esports presence. More recently, Riot released its highly competitive first-person team shooter VALORANT. To give an idea of Riot’s impact financially, in 2020 League of Legends ranked 7th on the list of free-to-play games revenue generated at $1.75 billion, according to an article in GamesIndustry.Biz. For VALORANT, sources told the publication Upcomer that the revenue from Champions-themed weapon skins during the first annual global championship surpassed $18 million. Both of these games have garnered millions of viewers and players, sparked eSports careers, and launched competitive gaming to a whole new level.

More information on the launch of this content will be forthcoming, according to Merrill. To learn more about these titles, you can hop over to the Riot Games website. Also, if you are not a member of Game Pass, you can find out all the details, including a catalog of included games, at the official Xbox website.
