Retro action-gore fest on Steam

Fans of the 2015 Canadian cult film Turbo Kid now have new content to tide them over while the sequel is being filmed. During Steam Next Fest this past week, gameplay for the upcoming Turbo Kid game was streamed by developer Outerminds. A public demo for Turbo Kid is available on Steam for download currently.

Turbo Kid is set as a sequel to the 2015 movie and is to act as a bridge between the first and second entries. Players control the titular character in what is labeled as a Metroidvania-style gory adventure game, according to the game’s website. The Kid will navigate levels both on foot and on his “All-Terrain Bike.” Developers are promising many elements appealing to gamers of different types, including speed-run modes, various collectibles, and non-linear completion designs. To score the game, the film’s composer Le Matos will return, composing new tracks for Turbo Kid’s soundtrack. Turbo Kid looks to be a completely new add-on to the world the film began, and it should appeal to many of the fans of the first movie.

First released in 2015, the story of Turbo Kid began as a Canadian/New Zealand film released in the United States. The cast primarily came from these two countries, with Michael Ironside holding a villain role in the project. Though its box office numbers were extremely low, the film gained a following fairly quickly among movie enthusiasts. A year later, a sequel for Turbo Kid was announced and is still currently in production. In 2021, Outerminds announced that they were in development for the Turbo Kid game, creating a Kickstarter campaign in September 2021 that very quickly surpassed its fundraising goal. Currently, the game has an estimated launch date of this month, and as mentioned above you can play the Steam demo right now.

Are you a Turbo Kid fan? If so, let us know in the comments. For more information on the project, you can check out Outerminds’ Kickstarter for updates as well as the official website. Also, be sure to check out the demo for Turbo Kid on Steam.
