Gloomwood to Hit Steam Early Access in August

PC

Retro-Inspired Horror Stealth Bliss

One of the most anticipated first-person titles in indie gaming is finally getting an early access release date. Gloomwood is getting a Steam Early Access release on August 16th, 2022. The date was announced with an exciting trailer at the PC Gaming Show during Summer Game Fest, an E3-style swath of events that have revealed a ton of exciting titles. Gloomwood has been in the works for a few years now and looks to utilize some of the best stealth genre mechanics while improving the gameplay with modern sensibilities all through a delightfully retro aesthetic.

For those unaware, Gloomwood is an upcoming first-person horror stealth action game with immersive sim elements in the vein of classics like Thief and Deus Ex with a visual style and design that echoes Resident Evil and even Bloodborne. Even the game’s earliest public demo proved to be a deeply engrossing experience with freeform gameplay. Sleuthing through dank sewers while monsters growl in the dark or carefully walking through rain-soaked streets with a gorgeous moon in the sky feels amazing. It’s a project I’ve been personally following for years and it’s incredible just how much detail is being crammed into it. Hell, the developers once spent ten minutes showing off how the Doctor Bag works in-game.

The Early Access release should provide a substantial chunk of content that is sure to satisfy horror fans.

Like many titles in the New Blood Interactive catalog, Gloomwood will go through a period of iteration using Steam’s Early Access features. Previous New Blood games have released content through episodes, culminating in feature-rich full releases. Early Access has been a double-edged sword for some games and there are plenty of projects left in that state perpetually but New Blood has proven that they use Early Access well and have been able to fine-tune their games into pieces of exceptional quality. DUSK is one of the best PC shooters I have ever played and that knack for perfection carried into the Switch port. All of this is to say that Gloomwood will likely go through a similar process and come out better for it.

August 16th cannot come soon enough!

Gloomwood will be available on Steam for $19.99 USD while in early access and will increase in price to $29.99 USD in the full release. More information is available on the official Steam listing or through the official New Blood website and socials.
