Level Zero, an Asymmetric Survival Horror Game, Announced for 2023
New survival horror title from indie Ukrainian studio DogHowl Games
Halloween is officially past, but that doesn’t stop the scary games from releasing. Ukraine-based developer DogHowl Games and publisher tinyBuild have announced a new asymmetrical survival horror title called Level Zero. The announcement details a 4-v-2 PvP experience that will test survival skills, player cooperation, and tactical prowess.
One of the most popular asymmetrical survival horror games currently available for players is Dead by Daylight, and though this game may share some similarities to that play style, Level Zero promises a more robust system of gameplay. Four players control a group of scientists attempting to escape one of the levels, while the other two control monsters actively working to kill the team. The survival team must accomplish objectives crucial to escaping, such as searching for tools and repairing fuse panels. Also, light and shadows make the difference between success and failure, as the monster players must stay in the shadows to survive and attack their prey.
Scientists can deploy light traps to keep themselves safe, while monsters destroy light sources and incapacitate players to achieve their goals. If a scientist player does fall victim, they can respawn as a drone character offering support and visual help for the rest of their team. The monster team will also have to employ a tactical strategy, avoiding light sections and tracking the heartbeats of the scientists. So far, three levels have been announced: Space Station, Cave, and Polar Station. Level Zero is built in Unreal Engine 4 and looks to be a menacing first-person horror experience.
Level Zero is slated for release in 2023 for PC, Playstation, and Xbox platforms. DogHowl Games has stated that before the year is up, they will be launching a beta with details coming later this month.
Available now on Steam, Life Eater is a horror game revolving around abduction for ritual sacrifice to halt the end of the world. The game is the latest from Strange Scaffold, the team behind El Paso Elsewhere.
