The Evil Dead Slays Some Deadites in 2021

Time to put on a blue button-up, slide into brown pants, and strap on a Boomstick! The cult-classic horror franchise is hitting the world of gaming once more with Evil Dead: The Game later this year.

Bruce Campbell returns to voice the iconic Ashley Williams alongside Dana DeLorenzo and Ray Santiago who reprise their role from “Ash Vs The Evil Dead” as Kelly and Pablo respectively as they team up with series icons Cheryl Williams, Scotty, and Lord Arthur among other unannounced characters to hunt down Deadites and return the lost pages of the Necronomicon to finally speak the words Ash tried to a long time ago.

During the Summer Game Fest, we got our first look at gameplay into Evil Dead: the Game which is a five-player asynchronous multiplayer game. The footage showcases the comic brutality of the series, making its triumphant return along with the reveal that a fifth player controls the Kandarian demon, which is able to control run-of-the-mill Deadites and stronger monsters like the hilariously terrifying Evil Ash throughout iconic environments from “The Evil Dead” series such as the Knowby Cabin.

Being a collaborative effort between Saber Interactive (World War Z, Snowrunner, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered) and Boss Team Games who currently have Kobra Kai: Card Fighter under their belts. They seem to have a pretty good handle on how the series portrays itself, right in that sweet spot of comedy and horror with Bruce Campbell himself talking about why Ashley Williams always wears brown pants or how you can “Scare someone to death but if you do that you are a dick,” and that is a quote from the King himself.

I can’t wait to see more of the game personally and I hope it stands out above titles like Dead by Daylight or Predator: Hunting Grounds.

“Klaatu barada nikto” indeed…

Evil Dead: The Game will be releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. There is currently no price set or a firm date, just a loose 2021 release window.
