How to Unlock “An Old Man’s Discerning Eye” for Gagnrathr in Valkyrie Elysium
Find an Easy-to-Miss Greatsword
In Valkyrie Elysium, there are six weapons (plus two pre-order bonus weapons) to utilize in Ragnarok against the mighty undead and warriors of Fenrir. While the majority of the weapons and spells are easily found through quests and subquests, Gagnrathr is easily overlooked. Here’s how to unlock the greatsword.
For starters, you must get to Chapter 3 of the main questline. This is a longer-than-usual quest where Valkyrie gains the help of Cypher, an ice-elemental archer. First, one must talk to the soul that gives the initial subquest; this is an icon on the map. After talking to the spirit, one would think that the subquest is ready to be chosen in Valhalla, this game’s base of operations, however, this is not the case for this subquest. There’s another spirit to talk to.
Continue through the main objectives of chapter three, find two of Cypher’s items represented by blue orbs and keep an eye out for a palace. The quest journal will read “Find the Plague Cure” which is the last task of this quest. Once naturally entering the palace there will be a half circle of stairs right before a save point. The map will change and the spirit should be marked but at the top of the small staircase is the spirit who will fully unlock the subquest.
From here, complete the chapter as usual, chasing Cypher through a frozen prison.
After returning to Valhalla, click on the center to choose a quest, enter subquests (Square button on PlayStation) and select “An Old Man’s Discerning Eye” which is thankfully a simple quest that results in getting the sword at the end of the level.
I personally played this chapter a few times before finding the second ghost, so I hope this saves other Valkryie Elysium players some time.
