A critically acclaimed RPG is headed to everyone’s favorite portable system. Slay the Spire, from Mega Crit and Humble Bundle, is a dungeon crawling, rogue-like, deck-building wild ride that is dropping on Nintendo Switch on June 6th, 2019, and will feature all content from the PC version. Slay the Spire launched out of Steam Early Access on January 23rd, 2019 with massive success, currently sitting as high as the #3 Best PC Game of 2019 on Metacritic. It launched on PS4 on May 21st, 2019 and to date has 1 million plus units sold according to a recent press release.

Slay the Spire looks like all the fun things we love about Magic: The Gathering without the complexities and intricacies that make Magic so difficult to learn. Slay the Spire features two playable characters with a third in the works, giving players multiple paths in which to conquer each floor or act. The card game aspect does not take up the entire feature, nor does the rouge-like aspect. Instead, they play together in a balance that just might leave players wanting another run.

Mega Crit had Slay the Spire in Early Access form on PC since January 23rd, 2019 but have kept up their professionalism with lots of developer communication and game patches to keep things nice and tight. With the addition of challenges, there’s always something to work towards. Also included are several difficulty-increasing options for those that really push games to their limits. Finally, there are leaderboards for speedrunning in the game itself.

Based in Seattle, Mega Crit has certainly made a name for themselves with Slay the Spire, and judging from sales trends on the Switch, this new port could be another boost for the indie studio. We’ll have to wait and see what players think about it when the game launches on June 6th.
